The tragedy of Foxconn's "N jump" in Shenzhen has shocked the world. It has also attracted the attention of all sectors of society to the survival of the employees, especially the post-80 and 90's new generation of migrant workers.


What are their situation in the city of labor - intensive enterprises, where the new generation of migrant workers gradually replaced their parents with the lowest technology?

The reporter went to Wenzhou economic and Technological Development Zone, Ouhai Economic Development Zone, Lucheng Shuang Yu, Yang Yi and other places to carry out an in-depth investigation.

The results show that the new generation of migrant workers are most eager to decent work and live with dignity.

Rhythm is fast every day, but it's like a machine.


At 9 o'clock in the evening of May 31st, the eye of Zhigang Zhao, a general worker in Ouhai, had been fighting for several hours at the workshop of Feihong glasses factory.

Though he felt very tired, he had to work till the bell rang.


"Our factory implements piecework system, more work and more gains, but each person has to install 1000 old glasses every day, who will do too little will affect the progress of the order fulfillment and deduct the bonus."

Zhigang Zhao, a Qiannan native of Guizhou, said that he had worked in the factory for more than three months. At present, he worked 12 hours a day to complete the basic task. He was busy from 8 a.m. to 12 p. m., during which lunch and dinner took a short rest.


"In addition to eating and drinking Lazarus, I am just like a machine. I do not move in my post, repeating the mechanization of" one take, one fight, one release ".

Zhigang Zhao said with a bitter smile, "this job has no technical content. Even a three year old boy can see his eyes quickly."


What makes him depressed is that he works for more than two years, and the fastest skilled worker in the factory can only install 150 pairs in an hour.

"Even if I work harder, my monthly income will hardly exceed 2000 yuan."

Zhigang Zhao said that workers can put up a pair of glasses for about 5 cents. He can earn about 1500 yuan a month.

More than 8 hours of labor regulations, although overtime, but because of the piecework system, there is no overtime wage or subsidy.


"Check the leather shoes every day after the inspector is put into the box, wrap them up and put them in place."

"My job is simple enough for me to go out of high school and do anything without thinking," Li Meng said. "But I have to work with the employees on the production line for 10 to 12 hours to complete the day's task." Mr. Li Meng, a post-90s general manager, said.


Like Zhigang Zhao and Li Meng, there are still many new generation migrant workers who feel they are only assembly line machines.

In their view, a similar job has no sense of achievement.

Most of the new generation of migrant workers have only junior high school and senior high school education, and a small number of them are junior college or university degree.


"Actually, high school education didn't work much earlier."

Liu Binghui, a 80 migrant worker from Xiangfan, Hubei, is currently a general worker in the fastener factory in Longwan. She has changed 6 "rice bowls" in the past 2 years.

Liu Binghui's first job was a porter in a logistics company. After that, he was a paint worker, a painter, a takeaway, etc.

"Diplomas and skills are not recognized by the interviewee. In order to earn a living, I can only do what I can do to fill my stomach."


Liu Binghui also thought of apprenticeship and learning skills in a company, but they gave up halfway.

So far, he regrets his patience and bad attitude. He stayed in Wenzhou for more than three years.


Only Dai Xinxin, who is a senior high school student and a shoe maker in a processing factory, originally wanted to work in secretarial work, but no company received her.

"They all asked for a college degree, and they didn't look at it when they saw my high school diploma."


She jumped three times, but still did not develop well.


Where is the way out?


Free in the fringe of the city


The new generation of migrant workers has a general anxiety: where is the future?


When factories are busy in the peak season, they are tired to sleep directly after the night shift. There is no time to read books or participate in training.

And in the off-season, they will be inert, unable to afford to learn knowledge and technology, and muddle along.


"When we work together with our colleagues or fellow townsman, we have the same rest time."

Kell, a new generation of migrant worker in Wu Tian, a lighter company in Ouhai, said that their circles were very small. They usually went around the factory, stroll around the streets, go up to the Internet bars, and see pirated discs. Kell,

"We seldom go to the downtown area, which makes us yearn for it, but we do not feel that it belongs to us. There is a kind of gas field that has refused us thousands of miles away, so that we dare not approach it hastily."


Fang Xiao said that they generally felt the discrimination of the local people in Wenzhou, and they could see that "scorn" in their eyes.


"Compared to our old home, the urban and rural joints are very suitable for us to solve the needs of eating, wearing and living all kinds of lives."

Li Gaifei, a new generation of migrant worker in Shuang Yu Xing long shoe material factory, said that the new Wenzhou people met here.


Li Gaifei said he did not have a friend in Wenzhou, he only knew two Wenzhou people - the boss and the landlady.

"It is difficult for us to integrate into the circles of Wenzhou people and cities. We do not want to go back to our rural areas to cultivate land. We never land or grow. We can not afford to buy a house, we can only afford the worst houses, so we can only find ourselves in the circle of urban fringe."


When the reporter visited, he noticed that these fringe areas were actually "dirty, messy, poor" places, and public order was not satisfactory.

More importantly, the environment is limited, the degree of civilization is relatively poor, so naturally it will be affected by "exposure".


Less solicitude and more care


Let them have dignity and hope.


In the past week's visit, many new generation of migrant workers are willing to accept the interview of reporters. When they talk about the tragedy of Foxconn's "12 jump", they also have their own unique views and understanding, and they also want to draw everyone's attention to their own predicament.

They are looking forward to a good life, but they do not want to go back to their hometown like their parents.

They want to take root in Wenzhou, but feel bad about their current living environment and mood, and feel that some enterprises are asking too much for them.


In fact, many enterprises in Wenzhou have done a lot of efforts in dealing with employees, especially the new generation of migrant workers, such as Kangnai, AOKANG, France and Jinzhou.

In order to create a harmonious enterprise environment and let employees settle down to work, the French school regards "caring for employees' lives and creating a happy atmosphere" as the top priority of the current work, and adopts various ways to enhance the cohesion of enterprises, and has achieved good results.

Peng Xing, chairman of the French group, said: "to do business is to do culture. If enterprises want to develop in the long run, there must be a culture suitable for their development.

If a man lives and works, if his life is not good, his work will be meaningless.
