Garment Manufacturing Output Rises

In the first quarter of 2011, global clothing output increased by 6%, according to a new report by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

It also emphasized the sharp differentiation between the developing countries and the developed countries.


Data show that manufacturing output in the textile and garment sector of developing countries has increased by 12.8% over the same period, but output in developed countries has dropped by 4.7%, the largest drop among more than 20 surveyed sectors.


The contrast in the textile sector is not so great.

The total manufacturing output of the Department increased by 6.12%.

In developing countries, total manufacturing output increased by 7.45% over the same period last year, but only 3.4% in developed countries.


Compared with the fourth quarter of 2010, the output of woven garments in developing countries increased by 7.3%, but that in developed countries dropped by 2.2%.
