According to the Daily Star of Bangladesh, in July 2nd, bilateral trade between China and Bangladesh has quadrupled over the past 10 years, exceeding US $12 billion. In the fiscal year 2008/09, the trade volume between the two countries was 3 billion 510 million US dollars, and the 2017/18 fiscal year increased to US $12 billion 380 million.

According to the FBCCI, bilateral trade between July 2018 and March 2019 amounted to US $11 billion, but the trade deficit with China was relatively large. In the past few years, Bangladesh's imports from China have increased year by year, but exports have been hovering below 1 billion US dollars.

Nearly 5000 commodities in Bangladesh are taxable to enter China, but because of their smaller export baskets, they can not make full use of this preferential measure. In the fiscal year 2017/18, clothing exports (US $695 million) accounted for 56% of China's exports, jute and jute products accounted for 19%, leather and leather products accounted for 9%. Of Bangladesh's imports from China, textiles and machinery accounted for 68%.
