From the Yantai inspection and quarantine department, it was learned that the industry standard, which was launched by the Japanese Fiber Industry Alliance to limit harmful substances in textiles, has recently completed preparatory work, and has entered the stage of implementation.

It is expected that this standard will be officially announced in the middle of the year.

The standard is mainly directed against carcinogenic aromatic amines residues in textiles. These aromatic amines are mainly derived from some azo dyes. At present, more than 30 countries and regions such as the EU have developed relevant standards, and 25 azo dyes are clearly prohibited.

Japan is one of the major exporters of textile and clothing in China. In 2009, the textile and apparel exported to Japan by Yantai port enterprises reached US $240 million, accounting for about 50% of the total export textile and clothing. The implementation of the new standard will have a direct impact on our textile and clothing exports.

In this regard, Yantai inspection and Quarantine Department reminded the relevant export enterprises, should attach great importance to, take measures as soon as possible to stop the use of banned azo dyes, and maintain the good reputation of Chinese products in the Japanese market.

First, we should do well the evaluation of qualified suppliers, select the supply enterprises with perfect quality system and ecological textile certification. Two, we must carefully compare the raw materials purchased from the market to the samples purchased before purchase, and make sure that they are put into use again after the authoritative inspection is confirmed. Three, we must further improve the contract terms, and make clear the exemption clauses on the trade contracts and letters of credit, and improve the self protection ability of the raw materials supplied by the customers.
